Trent Middle School

Trent Middle School is being built on Panther Creek Parkway and Legacy Drive and will affect the Lone Star school zone and traffic in the area.

Expected to be finished in 2015,  Trent is meant to affect the school zone for Stafford Middle School, which feeds into Lone Star. This change will move some students from Stafford to Trent depending on where they fall in the school zone.

“My brother, who lives two miles away from it [Trent MS] lives closer to Stafford but is going to go to Trent,” Madison Ari, 2017, said. “It’s a pretty long walk for someone just starting out walking to school.”

Although students going to Stafford may be poorly affected, many believe that the changes to Lone Star’s feeding system will be a positive and necessary change to the school system as a whole.

“I think it will be a good thing for Lone Star because with the kids split more evenly, they can get a better education,” Rachel Milton, 2018, said. “There will be less people in each class which will keep them from being overcrowded.”

The new zone proposal maps do not yet account for Trent, however they do show other new high schools that may be fed into by Trent. This isn’t meant to do anything to Lone Star’s current feeding system, which some believe that may not be for the best.

“Frisco is growing, and the new school to accommodate for all of the children coming in will be great,” parent Kim Cotton said. “The schools have enough people as it is, and the new one will reverse the chances of too much growth.”

With many considerations going into the rezoning of the school, one of the most worried about is the utilization of space. Trent is being built at an area that is predicted to cause traffic between the housing areas in Northern Frisco and some of the stores nearest to them.

“During school times in the morning and the afternoon, there will be quite a bit of traffic coming to and from school that will increase over times backup of people moving to the school as it develops with more housing and students,” Cotton said.

Although the school may cause a few problems for the community, the addition of Trent is meant to provide balance to the school system. Trent along with schools including Norris Elementary, Reedy High School, and Pearson Middle will make sure of that.

“I support the school’s opening because Stafford is too crowded already and the opening of another school will allow it to function properly,” Milton said.
