Lone Stars’ Wind Symphony struck a triumphant note this weekend, earning first place at the Dallas Winds Invitational in Dallas where they outperformed 25 other ensembles.
Held at the Meyerson Symphony Center, this event challenged hundreds of musicians with difficult repertoire. The band maintained precision and balance from start to finish, securing the top spot by the end of the weekend.
Students began preparing in December, rehearsing more than 30 minutes of music for the competition.
“The preparation was taxing, but it was worth it when we had refined our final product” Preston Winchester, 2026, said.
Performing in a professional concert hall was a significant experience for many students.
“I thought it was a good time and I’ve never been in a hall like that before so it was a really cool experience”. Allison Hocate, 2029, said.
The victory marked a meaningful achievement for the program.
“We did great and it really means a lot to all of us to be able to win this event after facing difficulty in previous years” Mayu Kotwal, 2026, said.
