Band UIL

Lone Star High School’s varsity band will be attending UIL (University Interscholastic League) this upcoming Friday, April 17th. The band will be playing three grade five pieces, two grades harder than last years pieces. The pieces are Euphoria by John Frantzen, Texas Star by David Lovrien, and La Gazza Ladra by Gioacchino Rossini.

“The UIL music challenges me but is fun to play. I especially like Euphoria,” Ramya Srankith, 2016, said when asked her perspective on the chosen pieces this year.

The band has been working on this music since February and is ready to perform all their hard work for the judges. The varsity band has yet to receive anything but a division one rating and they are hoping this year will be no exception.

“UIL is fun because it gives the band something to work for and strive for,” Daniel DeAnda, 2016, said.

The band has been practicing on the school’s stage and even going through a mock sight reading process to help them prepare for the competition.

“It makes me really excited to show the world that we’ve got talent,” Alex Sanchez, 2016, said about the performance.

Now that Lone Star is a 5A school, they will be competing against more schools than last year. Their preparation has been expanded along with the size of the band program.

“It’s bittersweet. I’m sad to be leaving everyone and this is one of my last concerts ever,” Gabby Stokes, 2016, said about her last UIL performance with her growing band peers.

UIL is the only concert season competition the Lone Star band attends and the students are ready for their big moment on stage.

“Its the best way to compete,” DeAnda said.
