Behind the Scenes: Student Council

Recently, Student Council started finishing planning events for the rest of the year since they finished LSHS homecoming dance, which theme was black and white affair.

“Legacy week is coming up soon and we’ve been working on that now just to reinforce all the main principles that Mike Smith came in and talked about,” Hana Snell, 2017 and Student Council Treasurer, said.

With planning events, Student Council faces difficulties, and homecoming is no excuse.

“Setting up, especially the stairs. They had sent us the wrong copy so it was just tough to set up, especially with everything coming the day before and getting on that deadline,” Andrew Press, 2018, said.

Even though the difficulties, Student Council remained positive and done it’s main job.

“Student Council’s important because we make sure that student’s voice is heard in the school community. It’s not just the administration making all the important decisions, we get a voice in it to,” Alex Alford, 2017 and Chief of Public Relations, said.

Before a year of student council starts, they put a system in to make it fair to all of their members and supporters.

“So there’s Mrs. Fryman who’s the sponsor and there’s me, the adult side. There are elected can I dates and they get the ball rolling with the students and run things. They ask the members questions and go to the administrators. Me and Mrs. Fryman are like back up,” Mr. Ray, AP Human Geography teacher, said.

Student Council is a leadership role and a way of getting ideas into planning school events.

“Student Council is an outlet for students to plug in and really get involved. It allows them to have a voice in the school and really embrace the school culture and philosophies for which we stand at Lone Star. Most importantly, leave a legacy for which they can be proud,” Mrs. Fryman, Student Council teacher, said.
